Can You Extend Your Visa in Phuket?
Yes — Phuket Immigration Office processes visa and stamp extensions for most visa types. The option available to you depends on what you’re currently in Thailand on:
- 30-day visa-exempt stamp or Tourist Visa (TR) — can be extended once by 30 days at Phuket Immigration
- DTV (Destination Thailand Visa) — can be extended once by 180 days inside Thailand
- Non-O Marriage or Retirement visa — annual 1-year extension at Phuket Immigration
- Non-B (business/work permit) and Elite Visa — extensions handled separately, contact us for your specific situation
- Already used your extension? — a Border Run is your next option
⚠️ Don’t wait until the last day. Apply for your extension at least 3–5 working days before your stamp expires. Phuket Immigration is closed on Thai public holidays and can be busy — leaving it to the last minute risks an overstay.
Option 1: Extend Your Stamp or Tourist Visa at Phuket Immigration (+30 Days)
This is the most common extension in Phuket. If you entered Thailand on a visa-exempt stamp (30 or 60 days) or on a Tourist Visa (TR), you can extend your stay by one additional 30 days at Phuket Immigration without leaving the country.
Key facts:
- Adds 30 days to your current expiry date
- Available once per stamp/TR visa entry
- Government fee: 1,900 THB
- Apply any working day before your current stamp expires
- Extension issued the same day — about 30 minutes at the office
- After this extension, you must leave or do a border run
📋 Documents required for stamp / TR extension
- Original passport (valid for at least 6 months, with a free page)
- Completed TM7 application form
- Copies of: bio-data page, current visa/stamp, latest entry stamp — all signed in blue ink
- TM30 address registration receipt (filed by your landlord or hotel)
- One passport-style photo, 4×6 cm, white background
- 1,900 THB government fee in cash
💡 TM30 is the most common reason for delays. If your landlord hasn’t filed it, or if you recently re-entered Thailand and it wasn’t updated, immigration will ask you to sort it first. Make sure it’s current before your visit.
Option 2: DTV In-Country Extension (+180 Days)
If you hold a Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), you can extend your stay by 180 days without leaving the country — once per DTV entry. This is processed at Phuket Immigration and is significantly more cost-effective than paying for a new DTV.
- Adds 180 days to your current DTV entry
- Available once per entry (you can re-enter and repeat)
- Government fee: 1,900 THB
- Apply before your current 180-day entry expires
- Same-day processing, approximately 30 minutes

Option 3: Non-O Annual Extension (Marriage & Retirement)
If you’re in Thailand on a Non-Immigrant O visa based on marriage to a Thai national or retirement (age 50+), you can extend annually at Phuket Immigration for a full year at a time.
Financial requirements:
| Extension type | Bank deposit method | Income method |
|---|---|---|
| Non-O Marriage | 400,000 THB in Thai bank for 2+ months | 40,000 THB/month income |
| Non-O Retirement | 800,000 THB in Thai bank for 2+ months | 65,000 THB/month income |
- Apply 30 days before your current visa expires — not earlier, not later
- Processing takes 2–4 weeks; you receive an under-consideration stamp on the day
- Our service fee: from 50,000 THB including full document preparation
Option 4: Border Run — When the Extension Isn’t Available
If you’ve already used your stamp extension, your visa type doesn’t qualify for an in-country extension, or you simply want a fresh entry stamp — a border run is the solution. You exit Thailand briefly, cross the border, and re-enter with a new stamp.
- Routes from Phuket: Ranong (closest, ~3 hours each way), Satun, or Penang for a 60-day TR stamp
- New stamp on return: 30 days visa-exempt, or 60 days if you enter on a Tourist Visa obtained at the consulate
- Time required: half a day to a full day depending on the route
- No formal limit on border runs, but immigration officers use discretion for frequent runners

What Happens If You Overstay in Thailand?
Overstaying your Thai visa or stamp — even by one day — has serious consequences:
- Fine: 500 THB per day of overstay, up to a maximum of 20,000 THB
- Detention: overstays over 90 days risk detention at the immigration detention centre
- Ban from re-entry: overstays of 90+ days result in a 1-year ban; 1 year+ results in a 5-year ban; 3 years+ results in a 10-year ban
- Red stamp in passport: a permanent record visible to all future immigration officers
🚨 If you are already in overstay: Do not wait. Contact us immediately — in some cases it is possible to address the situation through a voluntary surrender at immigration with reduced consequences. The longer you wait, the worse it gets.
Where Is Phuket Immigration Office?
All visa extensions in Phuket are processed at:
- Address: 482 Phuket Road, Talat Yai, Mueang Phuket District, Phuket 83000
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 08:30–16:30 (closed on Thai public holidays)
- Satellite offices: Patong and Blue Tree (10:00–15:00) for some services
⚠️ Check the holiday calendar before you go. Thai public holidays are not always predictable and the immigration office closes for all of them. If your stamp expires during a holiday period, apply earlier.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I extend my visa without visiting the immigration office myself?
For stamp/TR/DTV extensions — no, you must be present in person. However, we handle all paperwork and accompany you, so your time at the office is about 30 minutes. For Non-O extensions, some document steps can be handled by an agent.
How many times can I extend my visa in Phuket?
A stamp or TR visa can be extended once per entry — after that you need a border run or a new visa. A DTV can be extended once per entry by 180 days. Non-O visas can be extended annually with no set limit as long as conditions are met.
Can I extend a 60-day tourist visa in Phuket?
Yes — a Tourist Visa (TR) for 60 days can be extended by 30 days at Phuket Immigration, giving you up to 90 days total in-country.
What if my TM30 is not registered?
Immigration will ask you to sort it before processing the extension. We include TM30 handling in our service — if yours is missing or outdated, we fix it as part of the process.
Can I extend my visa on the day it expires?
Technically yes, but we strongly advise against it. If there’s any issue with your documents or the office is busy, you could end up in overstay. Apply at least 3–5 working days before expiry.
What is the 7-day emergency extension?
A 7-day emergency extension is available in exceptional circumstances (medical emergency, flight cancellation) after you’ve already used the standard 30-day extension. It is not a routine option and requires supporting documentation. Contact us if you are in this situation.
